Une
Une is a kids toy storage organiser box set of 3 different basic shapes: a cube, a cylinder and a triangular prism. The project was targeted for children ages 7-11 years old, an intuitive period that they start creating the ability of categorisation by colours, sizes, and quantities of sets of same elements.
The cylindrical organiser, detailed in this project, consists in an injected moulded plastic box with an internal ring base, an axis rotating ring, an internal divider, and a lid. Both rings have ludic geometric side openings that fits within themselves to make it opened or closed from the sides.
The act of fitting the same geometric openings was proposed to create interaction and playfulness when the child is putting away their toys, thus encouraging organisation and categorisation of the toys after playing.
During the design process, interviews with parents were conducted and a usability test were performed with 2 children using a cardboard mock-up. All 3D modelling and renders were done in Solidworks.
“UNE” comes from the conjugated verb “unir” - which in Portuguese means unite - that refers to the 3 different organising box shapes, which can be stacked together and stay “united” between themselves.
